Cavespawn Units Preview and Progress Report

FacebookTwitterGoogle+Share

How’s it going, everyone? Since we launched on the App Store last week, we’ve been getting some new players on iOS, and a lot of ranked matches have been happening due to the tournament!

Thought we’d share with you some progress on the Stoneborne DLC. During the Kickstarter, we only shared black-and-white sketches of the Cavespawn. But now, we are ready to show you the units in their full color!

From left to right:

  • Vermins – a bunch of huge, nasty looking rats
  • Trogs – blind, big-eyed, semi-reptilian creatures who carry javelins
  • Arachians – spider-centaurs with crossbows
  • Megapedes – giant, fanged centipedes
  • Stalkers – huge, pointy-looking things
  • Giant Slugs – the “dragon” unit of the Cavespawns

Meanwhile, we are almost done with the first playable versions of the Stoneborne campaigns. All ten levels still need to be playtested (repeatedly) and adjusted to make sure they are fun and well-balanced. Story and dialogues are also being worked on. We’re also starting to decorate the maps with the new decals, and working with some of the backers for their customized in-game rewards (maps and heroes). Still lots of work to be done, but we’re getting there!

While waiting for the DLC, we hope we’ll see you in the multiplayer lobby for the tournament. We’re also still accepting submissions for the art challenge. Mechanics here:http://legends.boomzap.com/contests

Legends of Callasia goes cross-platform with App Store release [Press Release]

Boomzap’s multiplayer strategy game on Steam launches worldwide on iPad tablets with a month-long tournament and an art contest

September 8, 2016, Singapore – Following its Steam release and a successfully-funded Kickstarter campaign for an expansion pack, Boomzap Entertainment’s fantasy-themed strategy game Legends of Callasia launches on the global App Store for the iPad, allowing for cross-platform multiplayer gameplay. A leaderboard-based tournament also begins in partnership with XSplit.

Inspired by classic turn-based strategy games like Civilization, Heroes of Might & Magic, and Risk, Legends of Callasia adds an original simultaneous gameplay mechanic that keeps games moving quickly, even in multiplayer mode while adding deep strategy elements. Easy to pick up and learn, the game has a classic tabletop feel, allowing players to build and control heroes and armies, build castles and cities, and control territories and kingdoms.

The game includes 30 playable single-player campaign missions, over 35 multiplayer and skirmish maps, and thousands of lands to control!  There are three factions to choose from – The Hundred Kingdoms, The Faeborne, and The Revenant – each with their own unique heroes, units, and cards. Players can plan and resolve their turns all at the same time, without waiting for others to finish. This makes for faster games, and adds another strategic element in predicting other players’ moves during online multiplayer.

As part of the launch, Boomzap is holding a tournament for those who play in ranked multiplayer mode. Players who reach certain ranks or points in the leaderboard when it ends after a month will win prizes. Meanwhile, a fanart contest is also ongoing.

Plans for an expansion pack adding a new playable faction and other additional content have been announced through the Kickstarter for Legends of Callasia: The Stoneborne. The project is already successfully funded, and the DLC will be released soon.

Download Legends of Callasia from the App Store or on Steam for PC and Mac at $14.99 USD. Pay once in any of these stores and you can get the game on all platforms. A demo version with unlimited multiplayer playtime can be downloaded for free. An Android version is also in development. More details available at legends.boomzap.com.

Map WIPs, Campaign Playtest, Card Art, and Hero Portraits (Plus: Art Contest!)

Hey all!

The Stoneborne DLC is slowly coming together, and we’d like to remind those who haven’t sent in their survey responses yet to do so by the end of this week! We need all the names for the territories, kingdoms, maps, and heroes so we can write them into the game.

If you tuned it to yesterday’s livestream on our Twitch channel, we’ve already put in some of the underground maps (but no decals yet) and have started on the Stoneborne campaign levels.

We’ll continue to tweak and adjust these maps and campaigns before the actual release.

You’ll see that some of the new cards (Stoneborne-specific and generic ones) are already working quite well in the game.

Meanwhile, we are also polishing some of the portraits for the Cavespawn heroes and units.

Speaking of art, we have just launched the Callasia Art Challenge! We are inviting artists to create fanart based on the world of Callasia for a chance to win cash prizes and free copies of the game. First WIPs must be submitted on or before September 23 via Discord. The full mechanics are posted here: legends.boomzap.com/contests/

Also, watch out for our iPad launch and tournament next week!

Price Change and Callasia Art Challenge (iPad Launch and Tournament postponed)

Due to last minute technical issues, we will be postponing the iPad launch to September 8. We want to make sure everything is in order when we welcome our new players! Unfortunately this means postponing some of the things we’ve planned for this week, but we are still pushing through with the art contest, the Stoneborne party, and most importantly, the new retail price.

Price Change

You asked, we listened: You wanted more players, and we’re looking for ways to deliver them. As Legends of Callasia moves to a true cross platform release on iOS, we’re dropping the price to make an even more successful release on that platform – and matching that price on Steam. Effective today, Legends of Callasia will be available for a list price of $14.99 USD. Like always, you only need to pay once to get the game in all platforms (PC, Mac, and iOS – soon on Android).

As a special thank you for supporting us early on, players who purchased the game before the price change will receive the limited edition heroes from Early Access: Val of Hundred Kingdoms, Tigris of Faeborne, and SkeleKing of Revenant. We will announce when the heroes are added to your accounts.

Art Contest

We are inviting artists to create artworks for the Legends of Callasia Art Challenge! Interested participants must join our Discord server (http://discord.me/legendsofcallasia) and show their first WIP by September 23, and submit their final artworks on October 7.

Postponed Events

To give everyone a fair chance for the tournament, we are postponing the leaderboard reset until the iPad version is launched. We also won’t be doing a 24-hour livestream this week, but the Stoneborne Kickstarter party will continue on August 30, 10PM EST on Twitch (http://www.twitch.tv/legendsofcallasia)!

For comments and suggestions, drop by our Discord server (discord.me/legendsofcallasia) and watch our livestreams on Twitch (twitch.tv/legendsofcallasia) – we have a 24-hour marathon to celebrate the iOS launch! You can also email us at legends@boomzap.com or contact us through the in-game Feedback button.
