Boomzap’s multiplayer strategy game adds a new playable faction, the Dwarves, through a DLC on Steam and an update on the App Store

October 17, 2016, Singapore – After a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, Boomzap Entertainment’s cross-platform strategy game Legends of Callasia launches its first expansion, The Stoneborne, which centers on a new playable faction, the Dwarves.

Inspired by classic turn-based strategy games like Civilization, Heroes of Might & Magic, and Risk, Legends of Callasia is a world conquest game with an original simultaneous gameplay mechanic where players can plan and resolve their turns all at the same time. Easy to pick up and learn, the game has a classic tabletop feel, allowing players to build and control heroes and armies, build castles and cities, and control territories and kingdoms.

The Stoneborne expansion follows the Dwarves back into the Great Dark, and will feature maps that are set underground, which follow new seasons. It includes a new set of campaigns, a total of 11 new playable heroes, improved Dwarf units, more cards, 20 additional maps, and more exciting content. It also introduces a new enemy faction, the Cavespawn.

Download Legends of Callasia: The Stoneborne from the App Store or on Steam for PC and Mac at $7.99 USD. The base game is required to purchase the expansion. Pay once in any of these stores and you can get the game on all platforms. A demo version with unlimited multiplayer playtime can be downloaded for free. An Android version is also in development. More details available at legends.boomzap.com.

Stoneborne Beta, MP Games, and weekly progress report

[Originally posted on Kickstarter]

Hey everyone!

We are counting down the days to the release of The Stoneborne DLC! Next week, we are holding Dwarf multiplayer games with our closed beta group on Twitch, and we are gearing towards launching the DLC on the week of October 17 (if nothing bad happens). If you want to join the beta group, let us know in the #omg-dwarves channel on Discord.

Here’s a video of one of the dev-only multiplayer sessions we had this week. You’ll see that most of the backer suggestions for names are in!

More videos available on Twitch. Speaking of streams, we will be guesting in The Show with No Name on Sunday, October 9, 8PM EST.

Some of the other things we’ve done this week are:

  • Changing the Stoneborne’s Artillery unit into a giant cannon
  • Changing the original Artillery into a hero: Billy
  • Implementing and testing the new seasons
  • Playtesting and adjusting the Stoneborne campaigns and maps
  • Continuing to make, name, and decorate more maps
  • Updating the world map

Legends of Callasia has also been nominated in the first International Mobile Gaming Awards in Southeast Asia. Please vote for us here: http://sea.imgawards.com/winners-nominees/1st-imga-southeastasia/

Today is also the last day of submissions for the Callasia Art Challenge, and the cut-off for therank-based tournament. We will announce the winners on Discord and post the artworks for public voting on Facebook.

For comments and suggestions, just send us a PM on Kickstarter or our other social media pages. You can also email us at legends@boomzap.com or contact us through the in-game Feedback button.

More Maps, Cave Seasons, Arachian Queen, and other game updates

Hey everyone!

We’ve been broadcasting our playtest sessions of the Stoneborne campaigns daily this week. Though we’ve had some technical problems with the livestream itself, the sessions were very productive and we were able to see which stuff needed adjustment. We’ll continue streaming onTwitch next week at 9AM Singapore time (9PM Eastern Standard Time), and hopefully with less issues.

We have also been discussing the seasons in the underground maps, because Spring-Summer-Autumn-Winter don’t make sense in the caves. In case you have any suggestions, please post in the comments!

Some new effects have been added and as requested, more emblems! Our artists have also been busy creating the new maps (yes, MappyMcMapFace is gonna happen!) and finalizing another one of the Cavespawn heroes. Here are some WIPs.

Meanwhile, in terms of the main game, we’ve been testing the Team Play feature which allows more than two players to form an alliance. It still needs some work, but we’re aiming to release an update before the DLC release. We’re also testing the Android version, but no definite launch date yet. If you want to continue supporting us, we are accepting additional pledges via Paypal through this link.

By the way, the deadline for the Callasia Art Challenge has been extended to October 7 and you still have one week to submit your fanart. It ends the same day as the rank-based tournament. Again, winners of both contests will win $200 USD each. More details here:http://legends.boomzap.com/contests/

Decorated Maps, Cavespawn Heroes, and UberDwarf WIPs

Hey Callasians!

Last day to submit WIPs for the Callasia Art Challenge is today, September 23! Speaking of art, we’re making progress on The Stoneborne DLC and we’d like you to show you the WIPs.

As of this week, all maps for the 10 campaigns are fully decorated! The levels themselves still need some balancing (as can be seen in our playtest on Twitch), but we’ve added decals depending on the terrain types.

We’d also like to introduce one of the new Cavespawn heroes.

As for the Stoneborne faction, we are also working on a new hero based on the likeness of our UberDwarf backer.

Check out the WIP from the initial sketch and the photo reference in the video.

So that’s it so far. To get more frequent updates, you can drop by our Discord and Twitchchannels. We’re also up to the challenge if you’d like to play ranked games with us for the tournament. Full mechanics and list of prizes here: http://legends.boomzap.com/contests

Cavespawn Units Preview and Progress Report

How’s it going, everyone? Since we launched on the App Store last week, we’ve been getting some new players on iOS, and a lot of ranked matches have been happening due to the tournament!

Thought we’d share with you some progress on the Stoneborne DLC. During the Kickstarter, we only shared black-and-white sketches of the Cavespawn. But now, we are ready to show you the units in their full color!

Cavespawn Units
Cavespawn Units

From left to right:

  • Vermins – a bunch of huge, nasty looking rats
  • Trogs – blind, big-eyed, semi-reptilian creatures who carry javelins
  • Arachians – spider-centaurs with crossbows
  • Megapedes – giant, fanged centipedes
  • Stalkers – huge, pointy-looking things
  • Giant Slugs – the “dragon” unit of the Cavespawns

Meanwhile, we are almost done with the first playable versions of the Stoneborne campaigns. All ten levels still need to be playtested (repeatedly) and adjusted to make sure they are fun and well-balanced. Story and dialogues are also being worked on. We’re also starting to decorate the maps with the new decals, and working with some of the backers for their customized in-game rewards (maps and heroes). Still lots of work to be done, but we’re getting there!

While waiting for the DLC, we hope we’ll see you in the multiplayer lobby for the tournament. We’re also still accepting submissions for the art challenge. Mechanics here:http://legends.boomzap.com/contests

As usual, feel free to chat us up on Discord and Twitch!
